There are about 30 surviving Mythsagas and fragments of a few more. Most were written down in Iceland, mainly in the 1300s. But parts of them are reproduced elsewhere, for example in the Danish 12th-century chronicler Saxo Grammaticus writings, or on rune stones in Scandinavia and England. This shows that the tales were known as early as the Viking Age.
