The Volsunga Saga

Calling the Norse Mythsagas “the forgotten tales” is actually not quite correct considering the Volsunga Saga. This is undoubtedly the most famous Norse Legendary tale of our time. Partly because it is also available in a German version: 1200-century epic Nibelungenlied, which in turn inspired the 19th-century composer Wagner to his famous opera Ring of the Nibelungs. Parts of the story (for example the hero Sigurd’s battle against the dragon Fafner) are also depicted in several Viking rune stones in Sweden, Norway and England.

Like many of the other Mythsagas, the Volsunga Saga is available in several different versions, and covers several generations. Some parts are more famous than others.
