The Hervarar Saga is sometimes called the tale of Hervor and Heidrek. However, these are only two of several people the story revolves around. It covers five generations and the real “main character” is a magic sword – Tyrving or Tyrfing – which is cursed and passed down from generation to generation. The Hervarar Saga is preserved in three distinct manuscripts, quite different from each other, even if the basic plot is the same.
